KHEC Working Group

Knoxville Heat Equity Coalition (KHEC) is a collaborative network of researchers, city government offices, community organizations, and community members working to advance equity-focused climate resilience in the U.S. Southeast, especially the unequal impacts of urban heat in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Our goals are to:

(1) Bring together community members and experts from diverse fields to address the adverse impacts of heat in Knoxville

(2) Increase public awareness, understanding and learning about extreme heat

(3) Build local capacity to respond to heat health hazards

(4) Inform policy options to address existing inequalities and the effects of extreme heat and its distribution
